In Care Of [Mad Men]

The season 6 finale of Mad Men was more than amazing - it was personal.

I had noticed a character eating a Hershey bar earlier, and just that reference had lit me up, but then this episode they take on the company itself.

And they actually talk about Hershey, the man. The school. It's written into the story line.

Sally said her father never gave her anything. And in terms of her emotional well-being, he didn't. But then the sentiment is checked at the very end, when she sees what he has given her in comparison to what he had.

The whole "where orphans could be loved" and "commerce of love" thing went down a bit rough, a bit forced (realizing the company's interest in maintaining a very positive reputation for the school itself), but the truth is that I used to believe I could win a Nobel Peace Prize at that school. I used to think I really had the whole world ahead of me - and looking to my friends who come from more regular lives, they even resent the idea of possibility sometimes.

It's almost like somebody on the writing team knew somehow...the episode also has Don punching out a minister. The one thing that made MHS a hellish experience was directly related to religion. Without that, it really is a philanthropic wet dream.

Sorry it's 4 in the morning and I was just so excited and had no one to share it with.
